I was watching an episode of 3rd Rock from the Sun on Netflix the other day. They were doing a spoof on Sex and the City with the obligatory scene with a curly haired, blonde woman typing on her computer. And I couldn’t help but wonder... haha, I’m just kidding. Actually the scene just reminded me that it has been a long time since I posted on this blog.

Since my last post so much has happened. RoomChecker has undergone some significant changes. We have added time tracking, performance scoring and guest satisfaction tracking. We’ll start adding multiple languages soon.

But RoomChecker is not just a sum of its features. Most importantly it is about how quality can be improved. I know whether or not I use a business app long-term is really dependent on how effectively the app can improve processes, reduce costs or increase revenue. With this in mind, we designed RoomChecker to help our customer do all of those things.

Mobile room inspections improve processes by storing data, sending automatic notifications and providing reports. This new technology creates a standard that can be followed day after day with new and existing staff members. All inspections can be done exactly the same way regardless of who is doing the inspection allowing you to have consistent quality that your guests will notice.

With RoomChecker, you can keep track of your open issues. The app can help you resolve issues quickly and also ensure that no issues are missed.

Some large hotels are now using their own apps to collect key data points. Room inspections are done on mobile devices and guests can download an app to communicate directly with the hotel. The thing is, there is really no reason why all hotels couldn’t do this with RoomChecker.

We designed RoomChecker to fill a need and help customers use their data to their advantage. Now any size hotel can use the app to compete with the big chains on the same level using the same technology at a fraction of the cost.

When you electronically store inspection data and performance scoring with RoomChecker, you open up lots of possibilities you wouldn’t have otherwise. The data will show you trends so you can take corrective action quickly. You can also see room, item and staff performance over time. Managing your staff is much easier when you have clear data supporting your advancement and training efforts.

Physician In-Office Dispensing of Prescription Drugs

Most physicians in an office practice dispense drugs on a daily basis and in most instances the drugs are actually dispensed or given to the patient by another party, usually a pharmacy. Physicians may, however, dispense drugs directly to patients and thereby provide a convenience to the patient and help to ensure compliance with the patient actually taking the drug. Questions arise with this model, however, since it is a new concept for most physician practices and uncertainties surround the practical application of in-office dispensing.

Is it legal? What are the state laws ?


In-office dispensing is definitely legal. Under federal Stark regulations, physician dispensing is acceptable and lawful when the dispensing is limited to the physician's own patients. In most states, physicians are allowed to purchase and dispense drugs under their physician licenses, and every physician is permitted by law to dispense medications to his/her own patients within his/her practice. All medications and products dispensed must meet FDA guidelines for repackaging and labeling. Some additional requirements may apply, however, and these vary by state. Most states do not require anything beyond an existing DEA and state license in order to dispense meds, but some states require each dispensing
physician to have a special dispensing license. Several states require an

Self-referral restrictions

The federal Stark laws pertain to physician self referral for Medicare and Medicaid
Patients, and there are exemptions for in
-office ancillary services, including
dispensing. The in
-office ancillary services exception permits physician owners
of a medical group, and other members of the group, to refer patients to their
group for certain Designated Health Services (DHS). An outpatient prescription
drug given to a patient in the physician's office, but taken by the patient at
home, is now covered by this exemption.

Completely Customizable, what does that mean?

I have been asked a lot of questions about customizing RoomChecker. Some ask:
  • If customization includes the number of rooms?
  • Can numbers or names of rooms be changed?
  • Can room types be setup?
  • Can items in the rooms be changed?
  • Can public areas be inspected?

The answer to all of these questions is yes, it can all be changed to match the needs of any location.

Just a few examples:
  • You can inspect any number of rooms from 1 to 3000+.
  • RoomChecker can be used to check hotel rooms with any numbers or names. 100-130, 3000-3020, 10230, Executive Suite, The Blue Room, 1st floor bathroom, or Ballroom A.
  • Room types can be set differently for different locations. Set the room type and then add the items to be inspected for that type of room.

These are just a few of the examples. We help all our customers setup the RoomChecker options to meet their needs. The app is unique and flexible. I’m also always hearing about how easy it is to use the app.

I guess the moral of this story is, if you want to change something there is probably a way to do it.

RoomChecker Version 3.0

It is here. RoomChecker 3.0, mobile room inspections. The app is everything I hoped for and more. We have build the app around complete customization. Each location or company can specify what they want their inspections to be. I knew this would open the app up to more than just hospitality and hotels but I am surprised that our users are already finding even more applications.

For example, I never realized just how many lost and found items hotels managed each week. To think of the dozens upon dozens of items that are found after guests leave makes my head spin. Or maybe that’s just the allergies. We have multiple hotels now beginning to keep track of the lost items on RoomChecker.

It has only been a week with RC 3.0. It will be fun to see how this app can be used in different facilities. Can you think of other uses for the RoomChecker app?

We are very excited about our RoomChecker app Version 3 that will be available this summer. This new version will incorporate comments and suggestions we have received from hotels that have used the app.

Most notability the new version will be applicable to hotels, hospitals, dormitories and any facility needing to document room inspections and track issues. In order to accommodate all of these different types of facilities we have made the app completely customizable. Customers will be able to define all entry fields. Some of these fields include room types, room names, issues list and priority levels.

The app will provide trending and detail reports for the custom data points. These inspections and reports will be available via internet browser, smartphones and tablets. You will be able to use this app on any device you currently have so there will be no need to purchase hardware.
